Sensory and Communication Support Boxes
Do you need any reasonable adjustments?
Sensory and communication support boxes are available on all wards and departments. Please let a member of the team know if you or a relative need any reasonable adjustments to support your care or treatment.
What are sensory and communication support boxes?
Developed by our Safeguarding and Complex Care Team, the boxes contain a range of resources that can be used to support you with different sensory, communication and emotional needs.
The boxes may be helpful if you experience:
Sensory impairments or sensitivities
Communication difficulties
Anxiety or distress
Cognitive impairment
Learning disabilities
Autism
Dementia or delirium
Other complex care needs
The boxes are not limited to individuals with a specific diagnosis and contain resources such as visual communication cards and charts to help express needs and preferences, fidget tools for sensory support, ear defenders to manage noise and sensory sensitivities, among more.
Crescendo Unit
Crescendo is a personal sound amplifier that can help individuals hear more clearly, reduce background noise, improve communication and support comfort and understanding.
It is available for wards and clinical areas across the hospital to borrow - please speak to the team in charge of your care if you would like to use the Crescendo Unit.
