Safeguarding Children and Young People
RJAH is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people.
Every child has the right to be protected from harm, and every adult has a responsibility to act when they are worried about a child. We work with children, families, carers and partner agencies to identify concerns early, respond promptly and support children’s safety and wellbeing.
What is safeguarding children?
Safeguarding means protecting children and young people from abuse and neglect, preventing harm to their health or development, and making sure they grow up with safe and effective care.
Concerns may include physical, emotional or sexual abuse, neglect, domestic abuse, child exploitation, trafficking or online harm, bullying or discriminatory abuse, female genital mutilation, forced marriage or so-called honour-based abuse, radicalisation or self-harm, suicidal thoughts or serious mental health concerns.
What to do if you are worried about a child
Please speak to a member of RJAH staff if you are worried about the safety or welfare of a child or young person. You can ask to speak to someone privately. You do not need to be certain that abuse or neglect has taken place. We will listen, take your concern seriously and help make sure the right support is provided.
If a child is in immediate danger or a crime is taking place, call 999. For non-emergency police assistance, call 101.
