DEXA (Bone Density)
We have a clinical team of radiographers, DEXA technicians and healthcare assistants who will support patients during their appointment.
What is a bone density scan?
A DEXA scan (bone density) is a test that measures how dense (or strong) your bones are. The scan is a quick and painless procedure that involves lying on your back on an x-ray table and an area of your body will be scanned.
The scanner uses X-rays to calculate your bone density using a low dose of x-rays.
There is no tunnel or injection involved.
The appointment will take around 10-20 minutes to complete.
We usually scan two sites, the lower back (spine) and hip, but other areas may be scanned, such as the forearm.
Following your scan, your results will be sent to your GP.
