Mr Hay qualified in Edinburgh then trained in surgery in the Midlands. His Orthopaedic training programme was in Sheffield and towards the latter part of this became a fellow in Melbourne, Australia, where he specialised in Shoulder, Elbow and Sports Surgery. His practice includes keyhole surgery which he teaches on a national body and all forms of open surgery of the shoulder and elbow, including joint replacement. He treats sportsmen across all levels of participation from casual amateur through to professional and has links with the military with which he has been the travelling orthopaedic surgeon whilst on rugby tour. He is actively involved with teaching at both a local and a national level. Publications He has published extensively in the Orthopaedic Literature including several book chapters and has been the contributing editor of an Orthopaedic textbook entitled “The Evidence for Orthopaedic Surgery”.
