Mr Dickenson is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialist interests in Hip Preservation Surgery, and Hip and Knee Arthroplasty. Mr Dickenson's research interest include epidemiology and clinical effectiveness of surgical procedures of the hip and knee. He has previously undertaken a PhD entitled 'The Epidemiology of Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome'. Mr Dickenson was the research fellow running the UK FASHIoN Trial - the largest randomised controlled trial assessing hip arthroscopy, the results of which were published in the Lancet. Mr Dickenson has been awarded research grants by the National Institute of Health Research for further randomised controlled trials and is an honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Warwick. He has over 30 peer reviewed publications with over 2000 citations.

Mr. Dickenson completed his surgical training through the West Midlands Warwick Training Programme, gaining experience at University Hospital Coventry, University Hospitals Birmingham, the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, and RJAH Oswestry. During his training, he undertook a period of research, which culminated in the award of a PhD from the University of Warwick. Following the completion of his training, Mr. Dickenson pursued further specialist fellowships. The first was in hip preservation surgery at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham under Mr. Callum McBryde, where he performed hip arthroscopy, pelvic and femoral osteotomies, and hip replacements. His second was the prestigious Thackray Fellowship at Wrightington Hospital, working with Professor Tim Board and Mr. Anil Gambhir, where he gained further experience in primary and revision hip and knee replacements, as well as hip arthroscopy. Mr. Dickenson was awarded the highly regarded British Hip Society / American Hip Society Travelling Fellowship, during which he spent four weeks visiting leading centres and renowned surgeons, exchanging ideas and learning from best practices.
