Miss Shepherd's clinical interests include bone and soft tissue sarcoma, benign musculoskeletal disease, metastatic disease, and tumour-like conditions. Having worked in cancer care for much of the past 30 years, improving patient experience and quality of life for patients are important aspects of her practice, including supporting the Trust in her lead roles for metastatic bone disease, and palliative care. Teaching and training doctors and allied health professions and as well trainees from the Oswestry/Stoke rotation completes her portfolio.

Miss Shepherd first qualified as a therapeutic radiographer, starting her career at the Leeds Cancer Centre. Her PhD in quality of life and treatment outcomes in patients with cancer was attained from the University of Nottingham. Subsequent medical training was completed at Sheffield School of Medicine before undergoing higher surgical training in the Yorkshire region, to include major trauma, limb deformity correction and limb reconstruction. Fellowship training in orthopaedic oncology was undertaken at RJAH, followed by a travelling fellowship to the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, India, a renowned sarcoma centre managing one of the largest caseloads in the world.

Miss Shepherd was appointed to RJAH in August 2018.

In addition to her core work with patients undergoing treatment for bone and soft tissue sarcoma, Miss Shepherd's sub-speciality interests include metastatic disease, limb reconstruction and internal fixation techniques.
