Interests of Dr Hughes include regional anaesthesia, anaesthesia for spinal surgery, the management of difficult airways and resuscitation training.
In 1991, Dr Hughes gained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB CbH) degree from the University of Wales in Cardiff. In 1999, he completed the Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) exam in London and the Fellowship of the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland (FCAI) exam in Dublin. He also has a New Zealand Diploma in Paediatrics.
He was appointed to RJAH in 2002.
