Veterans’ Service registrar awarded esteemed prize at international event

A registrar at Shropshire’s specialist orthopaedic hospital has been awarded a prestigious fellowship with the AO Foundation.

Mr Srin Cheruvu, who works as part of the Veterans’ Orthopaedic Service at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, travelled to Houston, Texas to attend the AO Advanced Trauma Course.

The course focused on the treatment of complex orthopaedic trauma, with participants developing their skills in areas including pre-operative planning, surgical techniques and teamwork.

Learning also included practical sessions using artificial bones, as well as group discussions, case-based presentations and assessments.

As part of the fellowship, Mr Cheruvu had the opportunity to present a complex polytrauma case to fellow his peers, with his presentation winning the AO Advanced Course Prize.

Mr Cheruvu said: “The fellowship was a fantastic opportunity to develop my knowledge and skills in areas of complex trauma. It was special to share and learn from different international approaches, including those from the USA, Canada, Brazil and India, as well as surgeons who continue to serve on the frontline of Ukraine.

“It was a real privilege to be able to present a complex polytrauma case to colleagues across the international orthopaedic community, and I was delighted to have been awarded the AO Advanced Course Prize in recognition of this work.

“My time with the Veterans’ Orthopaedic Service under the guidance of Lieutenant Colonel Carl Meyer has provided me with invaluable opportunities to further develop my clinical knowledge and experience, and I’m grateful to everyone at RJAH who has supported me.”
