The Theatre Implant and Resource Manager at Shropshire’s specialist orthopaedic hospital has won March’s RJAH Stars Award, in recognition of working through recent challenges to keep theatres equipped and patients safe.

Liv Roberts received the award in recognition of her vital role in ensuring surgical teams have the correct implants and equipment they need to deliver safe and effective care for patients at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital.

She was nominated by Sam McIntosh, Theatre Manager, who said: “Liv’s role is challenging every day, balancing the usual demands of sourcing surgical implants and equipment, alongside ensuring all theatres have the required kit for patients.

“Liv and her team have faced some additional pressures recently, but despite this, she has led from the front, not only for her team, but also for the wider theatre and RJAH community. Liv’s work ethic and drive to always deliver for patients is second to none.

“I’ve received such positive feedback about the work Liv has been doing – she is truly deserving of the RJAH Stars Award.”

The RJAH Stars Award is a monthly recognition initiative at the Oswestry-based hospital, celebrating individuals or teams who go above and beyond to demonstrate their commitment to patient care, teamwork and excellence.

The award was a total surprise for Liv, who had been told she was attending a meeting with Sam.

“I genuinely did think there was a meeting in the diary, and I certainly wasn’t expecting this,” said Liv. “It was a real surprise – you face challenges all the time, but I just see it as part of my job, so you just carry on facing it. Sam is always very vocal and says thank you, and so do other colleagues, but I only really think about carrying on and keeping everybody safe.

“It’s nice to get the recognition. I’ve seen different people getting this award, and you do think ‘I wonder if anyone would think of me in that scheme’, so it’s nice that they have.”

Liv was presented with her award by Stacey Keegan, Chief Executive, and received a certificate, voucher and chocolates – thanks to the League of Friends.

Stacey said: “Liv plays a vital role in ensuring our theatres run smoothly and safely, often working behind the scenes to keep everything on track.

“Despite the recent pressures and challenges faced by her team, her dedication, resilience and focus on doing the right thing for patients have made a real difference every day."
