A spinal injuries patient at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH) has celebrated how far he has come by completing a special one-mile challenge in support of BBC Children in Need.

Morgan completed his Mile for Pudsey around the Oswestry-based hospital’s Path of Positivity, joined by Pudsey Bear and cheered on by staff, patients, visitors and children from Peter Pan Nursery.

The challenge marked a significant milestone for Morgan, who has been receiving care from the spinal injuries team at RJAH. Not long ago, he was unable to make his way around the Path of Positivity without assistance, making completing the mile particularly special for Morgan and his family.

After crossing the finish line, Morgan said: "I'm so pleased I was able to complete the mile around the Path of Positivity – it was tough out there, and the weather made conditions more difficult, but I loved the challenge."

Morgan’s mum, Julie, said: “We’re grateful to have the perfect place for him to do it. For Morgan, it feels like a real sense of achievement given that he couldn’t get around it without assistance not that long ago.

“He’s doing it to give back, but the truth of it is that it’s also him proving to himself just how far he’s come.”

Kate Betts, Therapy Associate Practitioner at RJAH, said: “It was wonderful to see Morgan complete his Mile for Pudsey and to have so many people there cheering him on.

“Knowing the progress Morgan has made makes this achievement even more special, and we’re incredibly pleased that the Path of Positivity could provide the setting for such an important milestone for him.”

As well as celebrating his own progress, Morgan took on the challenge to give something back by raising money for BBC Children in Need, which supports children and young people across the UK.

His efforts have so far raised £1,040, and following his challenge, Enterprise Mobility agreed to triple his fundraising total for Children in Need.
