RJAH’s specialist bone and soft tissue tumour team celebrate milestone 10th anniversary

Staff, patients, families and supporters have come together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Montgomery Unit and Oswald Ward at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH).

The specialist facilities were created following a major charitable appeal, with the generosity of supporters helping to make the development possible.

Over the past decade, the team has grown considerably while maintaining its commitment to providing kind, dignified and compassionate care to patients and their families.

The anniversary celebration recognised everyone who has contributed to the service over the past 10 years, including current and former staff, patients and families, as well as the community and charitable supporters who helped bring the facilities to life.

During the event, guests reflected on the progress made since the Montgomery Unit and Oswald Ward opened, the challenges faced along the way and the many successes shared by the team.

Gill Cribb, Consultant Orthopaedic and Oncological Surgeon, said: “Over the past 10 years, many people have contributed to the story of the Montgomery Unit and Oswald Ward. Some have been with us from the beginning, while others have joined along the way, bringing new ideas, skills and energy.

“What has remained constant throughout is the team’s commitment to our patients. Patients and their families often come to us at some of the most frightening and difficult times in their lives, and while we cannot always give them the outcome they want, we can make sure they are treated with kindness, dignity and compassion.

“This anniversary is not simply a celebration of a building. It is a celebration of the staff who do their very best for patients every day, the patients and families who place their trust in us, and the community and charitable support that made the unit possible.”

Special thanks were given to staff members from the unit, the League of Friends and the Catering Team for organising the anniversary celebration and ensuring the milestone was marked appropriately.

Looking ahead, the team will continue to evolve as new people take on responsibilities and new treatments and technologies develop. At the heart of the service will remain the compassion and humanity that have defined the Montgomery Unit and Oswald Ward throughout their first 10 years.
