Runners braved the sweltering heat to take on Chirk 10k in order raise much-needed funds for The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH).
The event organised by Adrenaline Sports took place on Sunday 13 July – during one of the hottest weekends of the year.
The race attracted hundreds of participants to the scenic route around Chirk. As the named charity partner, RJAH Charity had 30 dedicated runners taking part, helping to raise more than £3,000 to benefit patients and staff at the Oswestry-based hospital.
Despite the soaring temperatures, the atmosphere on the day was one of determination and community spirit, with supporters lining the route to cheer on the runners.
Among those taking part were Victoria Sugden, RJAH Charity Director, and Heather Thomas-Bache, Head of Fundraising, Communications and Volunteers.
Victoria said: “Taking part in the event really brought home just how tough the conditions were – we’re so proud of every single one of our runners.
“The money raised will make a huge difference by helping us fund projects that enhance patient care and support the incredible staff across RJAH.
“A huge thanks to Adrenaline Sports for having us as their charity partner and to everyone who donated or cheered us on.”
Alan Lewis, Owner and Founder of Adrenaline Sports, said: “It’s been a real pleasure working with the team at RJAH. Having them as our charity partner for the Chirk 10k was fantastic and helping them raise much-needed funds has been amazing and lots of fun.”
RJAH Charity has recently launched a new campaign called 20Thrive – a calendar of sporting events offering participants the chance to get active, set personal goals and raise vital funds to support patients and staff at RJAH.
Whether it's running, cycling, swimming, or another challenge, 20Thrive provides an opportunity for people of all abilities to take part, have fun and make a real difference.
