The number of patients and staff across the region with respiratory illnesses has increased significantly – and there was a 60% increase nationally in hospital admissions last week alone.

As a result, The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital has, as of Monday 13 October 2025, re-introduced a requirement for staff and patients to wear a surgical face mask in any situation where a 1-metre distance cannot be maintained. All patients are therefore asked to comply with a request to put on a mask if asked to do so during any instance of treatment. It is important that we take necessary measures to prevent the transmission of respiratory viruses so that we can keep ourselves and patients well during the winter period.

We are not mandating the wearing of masks upon entering the hospital at this time. However, we understand that many patients and visitors may choose to do so for their own peace of mind. As such, our mask dispensers, which can be found at locations across the site, have been re-stocked. Please ask a member of staff or volunteer if you need any assistance.

We will continue to keep these rules under close review and will share any updates or changes via our website and social media channels.
