Catering team member served up RJAH Stars Award

A recipe of dedication, attention to detail and passion for improvement has earned a Catering Compliance Supervisor at Shropshire’s specialist orthopaedic hospital September’s RJAH Stars Award.

Holly Owens received the award in recognition of her contribution to the Catering Team through supporting food safety and compliance, while finding new ways to improve services and communicate important information to colleagues.

She was nominated by Sian Langford, Facilities Compliance and Sustainability Manager at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, who praised her work ethnic and the positive impact she has made behind the scenes.

She said: “Holly has worked as part of the Catering Team for some time, and this year, has supported maternity cover in the role of Catering Compliance Supervisor.

“She was so dedicated prior to handover, taking the time to learn the role, shadowing at every opportunity to ensure a seamless transition for the team.

“Since then, she has been such an asset to the team, quietly working under the radar producing outstanding work. From quality audits that offer detail insight into improving service, to supporting ongoing food safety compliance, she has a flair for developing clear communication - including visual guides for catering staff and a detailed updates to our intranet and website pages.

“It's been a pleasure to watch her develop in confidence and we really believe she should be recognised for both her skills, and importantly her work ethic too.”

The RJAH Stars Award is a monthly recognition initiative at the Oswestry-based hospital, celebrating individuals or teams who go above and beyond to demonstrate their commitment to patient care, teamwork and excellence.

Holly, who joined the team back in 2020, said: “I’ve really enjoyed stepping into the role of compliance in the kitchen, and it’s been an incredible learning experience that’s allowed me to develop new knowledge and skills.

“I’m really happy that everything I’ve been working on behind the scenes has been making a difference – whether big or small.

“I really didn’t expect to receive this recognition! Thank you to my friends and colleagues in the team for always supporting me.”

She was presented with her award by Stacey Keegan, Chief Executive, and received a certificate, voucher and chocolates – thanks to the League of Friends.

Stacey said: “Our Catering Team is fantastic, and I am incredibly proud of the food and service they provide for our patients, visitors and staff at RJAH.

“It’s great to see Holly thriving in her role – she has brought new ideas and a real enthusiasm for finding ways to make a difference, benefitting the wider team and service.

“She is the perfect example of the talent we have at RJAH, and I’m delighted to name her September’s RJAH Stars Award winner.”
