The short film, narrated by Prof Stephen Eisenstein, tells the story of Mary Powell OBE and her influence on orthopaedic nursing, against the working backdrop of the sculpture created by local acclaimed sculptor George Triggs.

King Manuel was a personal friend of Sir Robert Jones. They had met during the war, when the exiled king was acting as a representative of the British Red Cross in London. He worked closely with Robert Jones to raise funds towards a scheme for the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers. After the opening ceremony, which he performed with a pair of golden scissors, the king made a tour of the hospital. The new ward, which accommodated babies up to the age of five years, was later named “Wheatley Ward”, following the death of Dr Wheatley, for many years Medical Officer of Health for Shropshire. He had worked closely with Agnes Hunt since Baschurch days.

View Clip 2- These are the rushes which never made it to the final cut . They are interesting as they show the open-sided wards. Towards the end of the clip, the gentleman with white hair and top hat on the left of the shot, who is giving a speech, is Sir Robert Jones.
