Mr Joy Chowdhury

Staff Governor

Professional Experience

I have been an employee at the RJAH Trust for the past 22 years, serving as a Consultant Surgeon in Spinal Injuries & Rehabilitation Medicine for the last 17 years. From 2016 to 2022, I held the position of Clinical Lead at the Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries. This role significantly strengthened my leadership skills and provided me with valuable experience working closely with the Executive Directors and the Trust Board. It also offered me insights into the operational realities, aspirations, and challenges of our Trust.

In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I have been the Training Programme Director for Rehabilitation Medicine trainees in the West Midlands for over a decade, actively participating in training and educational activities.

Commitment to Excellence

Throughout my career, I have consistently dedicated myself to patient care and staff well-being. I have been directly involved in numerous quality improvement initiatives, innovations, and clinical research activities. My commitment to fostering a supportive culture among staff and my passion for collaborative improvement within multidisciplinary teams have been central to my professional journey.

Having worked closely with multidisciplinary teams within my department and other areas within the Trust, I bring a wealth of front-line clinical experience, a strong understanding of the challenges faced by staff, and a passion for collaborative improvement. I am particularly keen on improving behaviour, communication, and culture.

Vision for the Future

I believe in fostering a culture where staff feel valued, supported, and empowered to contribute to positive change. I would be honoured to represent my colleagues and contribute to the ongoing success and improvement of our internationally renowned hospital.
