A Senior Software Developer at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital has been announced as June's winner of its monthly staff award – known as RJAH Stars.
Richard Howell has been praised for his determination to develop a new wellbeing portal, named OurSpace, for staff working across the Oswestry-based hospital.
OurSpace launched earlier in June and is a one-stop-shop for staff at Shropshire’s specialist orthopaedic hospital, featuring a range of resources and information, all in a bid to further support their wellbeing.
His efforts were recognised by Caroline Nokes-Lawrence, Associate Chief People and Culture Officer, who nominated him for the RJAH Stars Awards.
Caroline said: “Rich has identified the need for a wellbeing portal for all our staff and has developed this at pace, giving staff 24/7 access to health and wellbeing support and signposting in a crisis.
“He has been fundamental in building the site and content and has shown great determination to develop the offer for his colleagues working across the hospital.”
The monthly award is presented to unsung heroes from across the hospital who are nominated by their colleagues for going the extra mile.
Rich said: “It was a huge shock to be presented with this award, but a huge honour as well. OurSpace is something which has been in my head for a long time – and I was delighted to get the backing of the Trust to make it a reality.
“I hope that it will prove to be a valuable resource for staff for years to come and am already thinking about how we can develop and improve it.”
He was presented his award, consisting of a keepsake certificate, a voucher, and box of chocolates donated by the League of Friends, by Stacey Keegan, Chief Executive.
Stacey said: “As a Trust, we are committed to supporting our staff, recognising that their wellbeing is fundamental to the smooth running of the hospital, having a positive impact on patient care and supporting morale.
“This is a fantastic example of a member of staff who has an idea that will make a big difference to their colleagues working across the organisation.
“I am delighted to announce Rich as April’s winner of the RJAH Star Award, and I’d like to personally thank him for all his hard work.”
