Martin Bennett

Public Governor Shropshire

Martin has been a resident of Oswestry, Shropshire since 1976, and worked for Shropshire Council initially as a librarian, and then in a variety of roles before moving to Telford Council as an IT Officer. He has also experience with the Citizens Advice Service as a member of the former Oswestry Management Committee for 20 years and Chair several times. He was a School Governor and Chair of Governors for many years. Perhaps better known as a Town Councillor for over 30 years elected Mayor three times, a Borough Councillor and Mayor, and Shropshire Councillor. Currently a member of the Oswestry Rural Parish Council and the West Brom Building Society Members’ Council.

 

Martin has been an accredited Methodist Local Preacher since 1997 and conducts around 40 services in chapels throughout North Shropshire each year. He is Secretary to the Oswestry Methodist Church Council, and the pre-school there, as well as being a Steward.

 

His connection with the hospital has been through ETHOS a Charity which was founded to provide temporary housing and support for patients discharged from the Spinal Injuries Unit. He is a member of the Board serving over 20 years and Chair of the Board.
