Sheldon Ward Therapy Team

Sheldon Ward Therapy Team consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and a Therapy Support Worker.

On admission to the ward you will have an assessment by an Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist to identify any current difficulties you may have. From these assessments a goal based rehabilitation programme will be designed with you, for you. This programme may include both group and individual treatment sessions as well as a personalised exercise programme for you to carry out in your own time on the ward.

Rehabilitation is not only completed by the Therapy team. The nursing team also contribute to all patients'  rehabilitation. For example when assisting a patient to wash and dress they will follow the rehabiliation techniques in your programme. The focus for Sheldon ward is providing a rehabilitation day so all interactions between patients and staff contribute to your overall rehabilitation.

Therapy treatment may be conducted on the ward, in the ward therapy treatment area, in the Occupational Therapy department/rehabilitation flat or/and within your home environment in the form of a Home Assessment.

During your stay in hospital, we advise you bring in:

  • Suitable day clothing that is not too long or loose but suitable for undertaking your rehabilitation programme.
  • Well-fitting footwear that is flat, supportive with an enclosed heel and non-slip sole.

The Therapy team will work closely together with the medical, nursing staff and social services to facilitate a safe and timely discharge from hospital.
