Orthopaedic Institute Ltd

Registered Charity Number 1044906

The Orthopaedic Institute Limited founded in 1971, is a small independent registered charity who, for over 50 years, has proudly supported the specialist research centres at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH).

The Executive Committee, under the leadership of the Chair Mr Eric Evans, decides the policy of the Institute and monitors its progress.

The Research Panel, under the direction of  Chair Mrs Teresa Jones, considers new research projects proposed by research staff and clinicians and recommends to the Executive Committee, the projects to be funded from the income provided by grants and donations received.

All the money we raise supports research and education for patient benefit in the specialist research centres and departments within the hospital, a long standing centre of excellence in world orthopaedics.

RESEARCH

Our world renowned research is undertaken by the RJAH Hospital Research Departments, Institute of Orthopaedics, and the Institute for Science and Technology in Medicine of Keele University, which all work in close collaboration.

The range of research is impressive, investigating conditions that affect the musculo-skeletal system and the advancement of care of these conditions including arthritis and rheumatism, orthopaedic conditions of childhood including cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy, joint replacement and cellular techniques for repair and healing.   All well designed studies on conditions affecting patients attending our hospital.

TEACHING

We also support the funding of educational facilities and organise specialist training courses for orthopaedic trainees and allied health professionals, including our colleagues in the newly opened Veterans’ Centre.

Our flagship courses, including the Clinical Examination and Viva Courses, have earned world-class reputations.  This has been built on the participation of our patients and the highest quality Lecturers and Examiners.   We are very grateful to all involved.
