Spinal Cord Injuries Therapy Team

The Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries (MCSI) Therapy Team provides a comprehensive service to the patients of the MCSI.

The therapy service includes assessment and intervention within the acute, rehabilitation and post-discharge phases.

Acute rehabilitation can include respiratory care, maintenance of joint range of movement (including upper limb splint provision when required), patient education and the facilitation of independence within the immediate ward environment.

Active rehabilitation is a patient-centred process which can take place in a variety of areas, e.g. on the wards, in the therapy treatment areas, the hydrotherapy pool and the rehabilitation flat.

Depending on your needs, rehabilitation potential and personal goals, your therapy intervention may include practicing Activities of Daily Living and transfers, mobility assessments (wheelchair or gait), home/work/school assessment and provision of advice and education.

We aim, as a team, to enable the patient to reach their maximum level of independence, allowing them to fully participate in and enjoy their future life.

The therapy team comprises both Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Technical Instructors and Assistants.
