Lieutenant Colonel Carl Meyer, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH), has lots to celebrate after he was named the overall champion at the English Veteran Awards 2022.
Lt Col Meyer, who is also a Reservist in 202 Midlands Field Hospital, also took home the prize for Reservist of the Year, after he was nominated for his committed work to the Veterans’ Orthopaedic Service.
The prestigious English Veteran Awards, which took place at the Village Hotel and Leisure Club in Portsmouth, aim to recognise veterans, reservists and businesses across the country who are going above and beyond to support the military community.
Lt Col Carl Meyer said: “I am delighted to have been announced as the winner for both awards. The Veterans’ Orthopaedic Service at RJAH enables our veterans to be seen in an environment that brings them both comfort and familiarity.
“The new state-of-the-art Headley Court Veterans’ Orthopaedic Centre will be a fantastic addition to the Trust and is the first dedicated orthopaedic centre for Armed Forces veterans in the UK. I am excited for the impact it will have on our veterans.”
The Veterans’ Orthopaedic Service at the Oswestry-based hospital is led by Lt Col Meyer and is the first of its kind in the UK and will soon be enhanced with the brand–new, bespoke Headley Court Veterans’ Orthopaedic Centre.
The pioneering facility was made possible following a £6 million donation from the Headley Court Charity.
Stacey Keegan, Chief Executive, said: “Congratulations to Lt Col Meyer, I am delighted he has been recognised for his amazing efforts.
“Caring for our veteran patients is a huge priority for the hospital and the care we provide will only be enhanced with our new dedicated facility which is opening soon.”
