Postman Paul picks up Health Hero Award

Internal postman Paul Lindop got a surprise delivery – when he was presented with the monthly Health Hero Award at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital.

Paul, a member of the Portering Team at the Oswestry-based hospital where he has worked for more than 36 years, is a familiar face to all staff as he delivers mail to every department.

He received seven nominations for the Health Hero Award – from Deputy Head Porter Christine Lee, Logistics Assistant Paul Ford, and Medical Secretaries Janice James, Sarah Evans, Anita Arnold, Jean Morgan and Nicola Jones.

Citations included Janice’s, which stated: “He consistently demonstrates the values that the Trust represents - he is always friendly, caring, helpful and professional when he delivers and collects our mail, and always has a friendly word for everyone he meets on the corridor.”

Sarah added: “Paul has tireless enthusiasm and passion for his work and will help work colleagues, patients and visitors without any hesitation.”

And Nicola said: “He is always a gentleman - helping staff and visitors alike everywhere he goes with a friendly outlook and commitment to keep the post moving around the hospital."

Paul was delighted, if somewhat embarrassed, to receive the award.

He said: “I thought I was just coming a team meeting and Martine (Williams, the Deputy Facilities Manager) was coming over to speak to us, so it was a nice surprise.

“I’d like to thank everybody who has nominated me. They are my friends as well as my colleagues, and I wouldn’t work anywhere else now.”

The award was presented to Paul by Chief Executive Mark Brandreth, and was formally announced at the March meeting of the Board of Directors today.

Mark said: “Paul’s years of hard work have been so valuable to RJAH so I am delighted to see that effort recognised by his colleagues who have nominated him for this award.

“He is one of the most recognisable faces on the site as we all see him most days bringing post around to our individual wards and departments.

“He has a smile and a friendly word for everyone. He is an asset to the Trust and I am delighted that he is part of our team.”
