Preceptorship at RJAH

What is Preceptorship?

The role of the preceptorship process is to provide support during the transition from student to registered practitioner. With the help of an experienced and competent nurse acting as your point of contact and role model, this transition will be a smoother process.

The goal of the preceptor is to provide support, valuable teaching and learning experiences which assist in integrating newly qualified practitioners into their area of practice.

At RJAH, we want our newly qualified, return to practice nurses, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), as well as Nurse Associates and international recruits, to feel supported in their new roles.

To nurture these groups of staff, we offer a 6-month, bespoke, in-house Preceptorship programme, which includes modules such as medicines management, immediate life support and pain training, among other topics.

Following our Preceptorship programme, staff will then continue to complete Shropshire Telford and Wrekin’s Integrated Care System’s (ICS) Preceptorship, which covers subjects such as leadership and resilience. This programme is completed over 5 days over a 12-month period.

The team will also be applying for a National Preceptorship Quality Kitemark which will recognise and further enhance our in-house programme.
