Orthopaedic Wards

Our Orthopaedic Wards comprise of Clwyd Ward, Powys Ward and Kenyon Ward. The Baschurch Unit also comes under this area.

Powys and Clwyd are 28-bedded acute inpatient wards receiving a diverse group of patients across all sub specialities of orthopaedics (Arthroplasty including revision surgery, upper limb, lower limb, sports injuries and spinal disorders). Complex orthopaedic conditions such as peri-prosthetic fractures are also nursed on Powys and Clwyd. They are led by Ward Managers Anne Lloyd and Deb Povall respectively.

The in-patient ward areas provide a great environment to develop general skills and knowledge in relation to orthopaedic care. Following clinical pathways and working alongside the multi-disciplinary team nurse led discharge by criteria is promoted. A vast range of clinical skills can be developed such as venepuncture, cannulation, catheterisation, wound care and removal of surgical drains within a supportive and encouraging learning environment.

Kenyon Ward is a 10 bedded ward currently open from Tuesday afternoon to Saturday afternoon each week. We currently have vacancies for nurses who will be dedicated to caring for patients on Kenyon Ward who have had orthopaedic surgery.

The ward is led by Ward Manager Hayley Woodcockand offers plenty of training and learning opportunities as well as a great environment to develop general skills and knowledge in orthopaedic care.

The Baschurch Unit is part of our £15.1 million Theatre and Oncology development providing admission on day of surgery and orthopaedic day-case services. It is led by Ward Manager Rachael Flood.

Comprising of 16 trolleys, 10 day-case beds, five consultation rooms and a discharge area servicing 10 theatres, Baschurch is a fast flowing dynamic working environment. Seeing a high volume of patients each day the nursing team work alongside all members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure a seamless patient journey developing skills and knowledge in relation to admission, assessment and nurse led discharge. The unit is open from 7am to 10pm, Monday to Friday, offering flexible shift patterns.
