Keeping infection rates low

A key objective of The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic & District Hospital NHS Trust is to maintain a clean culture throughout the Trust and to ensure that hand hygiene and infection prevention and control is embedded in the management agenda and the accountability of all staff.

It is important that all staff develop awareness and knowledge of infection control processes and procedures and apply to practice when performing patient care.

Hand hygiene is regarded as one of the most critical single factors in the prevention of spread of some of the micro-organisms which can cause HCAIs.

The importance of hand hygiene is considered a priority and the need for its emphasis in the health care setting is recognised. The national Clean Your Hands campaign is rolled out across the Trust. Audits of hand hygiene compliance are being under taken at ward/departmental level and action plans are devised for areas scoring below 95%.  Directorates have purchased light boxes to test competency in hand washing on an ongoing basis.
