The Therapy Department provides an efficient, effective, caring and cohesive service to the hospital. We supply an occupational therapy and physiotherapy service to all referring practitioners, and aim to assess all patients within the time limits of the Patient's Charter.
Close liaison with all local General Practitioners, Consultants and other health service professionals is a top priority.
We treat a wide range of musculoskeletal, respiratory and neurological conditions, within our specialist teams.
Our Therapy Teams
The physiotherapists within the general medical team work closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team in order to provide a comprehensive rehabilitation service to patients on Sheldon ward.

A small team of highly experienced physiotherapists provide assessment and treatment of inpatient and out-patients for a wide range of sporting injuries.
We undertake internal and peripheral clinical duties, post-op day case surgery care and general fitness treatments. We provide evidence based rehab protocols for a variety of conditions, and are very active in current research.

We see inpatient and day case children for assessments, mobilising and rehabilitation which includes:
- group exercise classes
- individual exercise programmes
We give support to parents/carers with advice and explanations.
We communicate with Community, School and outpatient physiotherapists.
We treat many different conditions, childhood disorders, syndromes and abnormalities.

Outpatients are treated in the physiotherapy department, which has individual cubicles, an open gym area, and a well equipped fitness suite.
In patients are treated on the ward and/or in the physiotherapy department.
There is also a hydrotherapy pool on site where in patient and outpatient treatment occurs.
Extended Scope Practitioners and Specialist physiotherapists work in outpatient clinics independently and alongside orthopaedic Consultants.
