Team RJAH London Marathon places up for grabs

Runners who have missed out on a place in the London Marathon ballot could still have the opportunity to participate – with places still available in Team RJAH!

More than £46,000 was raised by 23 runners taking part in the race earlier this year on behalf of The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Charitable Fund.

A number of slots have already been filled for 2018 but the Oswestry-based hospital still has more spaces to fill and is inviting experienced runners who would be interested in representing the hospital to get in touch.

Jamie Roberts, Healthcare Records Clerk, ran the marathon for the hospital earlier this year and has decided to join Team RJAH again for the 2018 race.

He said: “The experience was unbelievable and the atmosphere is something you can’t describe until you’ve witnessed it first-hand. Aside from that, I want to have one more go at trying to beat my previous time as I know I can do better.

“I managed to raise £2,100 previously for RJAH, and I’m hoping I can beat that this time around. It’s great to see the money that I raised benefit so many different patients.”

Frank Collins, Chairman of the Trust, said: “We are delighted that we are able to enter a team of runners in the London Marathon every year, it’s a fantastic event which benefits charities all across the world.

“It’s one of the biggest single fundraisers on the calendar and we are keen to ensure that we fill all our places so we can raise as much as possible to benefit all our patients.”

Mark Brandreth, Chief Executive, added: “The money raised will go into our wider charitable funds pot, which is used to support projects all across the hospital and provide facilities that will make life a little bit more comfortable for our patients.

“We are so grateful to all the runners, and our wider fundraisers, who help us to provide the best possible service we can for our patients.”

The 2018 Virgin London Marathon will take place on Sunday 22 April. Runners offered a place on Team RJAH must commit to raising a minimum of £1,500 for the Trust. Those funds help us to:

·         support research and develop new treatments

·         provide state of the art equipment and facilities

·         provide extra comfort to our patients
