Recruitment day for Nurses and Operating Department Practitioners

Release Date: 19/10/2017

Recruitment day for Nurses and Operating Department Practitioners

A special recruitment day is taking place at Shropshire’s specialist orthopaedic hospital next month, aimed at nurses looking to take the next step in their career.

The event, which is taking place on Sunday 19 November between 9.30am and 1pm, is part of The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital’s (RJAH) efforts to recruit more nurses and Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) to work at the hospital.

Experienced, newly qualified and student nurses who are qualifying this year are invited to attend the recruitment day, which will see the hospital’s main entrance transformed into a hub for visiting nurses to meet the teams.

The day will give nurses and ODPs an opportunity to have a chat to the teams, take a tour, undergo assessments, have an interview and if successful they could even leave the Oswestry-based hospital with offers of employment.

There are vacancies in areas across the hospital, including Theatres and Critical Care, and on the orthopaedic and spinal injury wards.

A similar event last November proved a resounding success, with 24 nurses being interviewed on the day, and 17 of those leaving with offers of employment.

Bev Tabernacle, Director of Nursing, said: “I’d love to see as many people as possible come along to next month’s recruitment event. It’s a great way for nurses and ODPs to come and have a look at us and what we do here at RJAH, and hopefully leave with a job offer.

“We want staff who show compassion and exhibit the behaviours which will enable them to deliver outstanding care to our patients.

“We want to show nurses and ODPs that RJAH is a great place to work and let them see for themselves how we maintain the high level of patient care, which we are renowned for.”

Sue Pryce, Deputy Director of Human Resources, said: “We advertise roles in the usual way on our NHS Jobs page all the time but it’s also good to actually meet potential staff members face-to-face, and recruitment events such as this one are a fantastic way of doing that.

“The recruitment events we’ve held in recent months have been a real success, especially in terms of showing off what we do for staff in terms of careers and education. An advert doesn’t always do that justice.

“We always want to hear from potential staff, through the recruitment day or otherwise. There are always new opportunities appearing if you check the NHS Jobs page regularly.”
