Osfest Partners Appeal
Monday 11 February 2013
Osfest 2013, Oswestry’s own four day popular music May festival, is partnering with the £500,000 Appeal to help fund a £2million Bone Cancer Centre at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Oswestry (RJAH). The new Centre will be designed to treat cancer patients in a dedicated care environment, the majority of whom are under 24 years of age.
Osfest has been held for the last three years, attracting the UK’s top acts, with ticket sales of over 5000. Osfest’s 2013 line up currently includes JLS, Lawson, James Arthur, The Enemy and Wiley. The family friendly event begins at Park Hall on Friday 24 May and goes on until the campers depart on Bank holiday Monday, 27th May. To buy tickets, please go to: www.osfest.co.uk . From promotional events at the hospital whereby people can buy tickets, the Osfest organisers have kindly agreed to donate £5 from each ticket sale made on these promotional days to the Appeal. At the festival, the Bone Cancer Centre Appeal film will be shown and can be viewed at: www.rjah.nhs.uk/bonecancerappeal Appeal wristbands will also be available for festival goers to buy.
Appeal Director, Gwilym Owen OBE, commented, “This is fantastic news! We are delighted that Osfest 2013 has come onboard to support our Bone Cancer Centre Appeal. The festival targets the age group where bone cancer most often strikes”.
The current Tumour Unit at Oswestry’s specialist orthopaedic hospital delivers a nationally specialised bone tumour service, one of only five in the UK, with a catchment area of 9 million people. The new Oswestry Bone Cancer Centre, to be part funded by the RJAH to the tune of £1.5 million, will include en-suite rooms, treatment and relaxation areas and a garden reflection space. The new centre is planned to be located near the main entrance for ease of access. Consultants Mr Paul Cool and Miss Gillian Cribb, their multi-disciplinary team and patients have all contributed to the design process.
